DESCRIPTION:The Patten Free Library Book Group meets on the last Wednesday 
 (unless noted) of each month at 3 pm in the Board Room.  We match a pair of 
 books\, one a work of fiction\, the other of nonfiction\, on a topical and 
 timely theme. New members are always welcome!\n\nSeptember 24: Oliver Twist 
 by Charles Dickens\; Paired Fiction: Fagin the Thief by Allison Epstein – 
 A paired reading of alternative viewpoints on the same classic. \n\nOctober 
 29: Fiction: O’Caledonia by Elspeth Barker and Paired Fiction: We Have 
 Always Lived in a Castle by Shirley Jackson. Two delightfully creepy books 
 for this haunted month.\n\nNovember 26: Fiction: Twist by Colum McCann\; 
 Nonfiction: Africa is Not a Country by Faloyin Depo. Theme: Cultural 
 imperialism in Africa.\n\nDecember 30 (note:Tuesday): Was the Cat in the 
 Hat Black?  Fiction: Your favorite Childhood Book – we’ll explore 
 race\, racism and the culture of nostalgic childhood.\n
